Upcoming Features

  • Derived concepts — allowing for concepts to be defined as "rules" that calculate their value dynamically from other data points (observations, parts of the data model, or other derived concepts)
  • PEPFAR reporting — a module that automatically generates PEPFAR reports, ideally from a preset list of derived concepts so that once the derived concepts are defined for a particular implementation, the same PEPFAR engine can be used to generate the report
  • Clinical Summary reports — the ability to generate simple reports for clinicians in a manner that can be designed and manipulated by non-programmers

Medium Term Goals

  • Import and export functions for forms — accounting for differing concepts between implementations
  • Data synchronization between servers
  • Automated or semi-automated installation of OpenMRS
  • More formal unit testing

Long Term Goals

  • OpenMRS HIV — a "shrink-wrapped" version of OpenMRS, containing the forms and reports necessary to begin collecting data for and supporting HIV care "out of the box"
  • OpenMRS Concept Cooperative (OCC) — a central clearinghouse for sharing OpenMRS concepts and mapping between different implementations and to existing vocabulary standards
  • A robust and flexible report generator — ideally, based on open-source products with a large community of support
